Why do I need a web site?
A website is one of the most cost-effective ways of marketing your business
particularly compared to the print-based alternatives. Changes can be made quickly
and easily to your site so that your potential customers can have up to date
information about your products and services 24 hours a day, anywhere in the
world.
Your company image will improve with a good quality website and it can help you stay ahead of your competitors.
How do people find
my web site?
Most websites are reached via a search engine such as 'Google' or 'Yahoo'. We
can optimise your site in such a way that the search engines will rank it highly
in their list of results for a specific keyword or phrase. Regular resubmission
to most search engines can also help improve this positioning. Some search engines
and directories now charge a one-off fee for registering with them. We have
a number of search engine submission services and will be happy to discuss the
options appropriate for your business.
It is also important to promote your site by putting the address on all your business stationary and other printed materials. There are also many online directories that list companies in a particular business (eg photography, alternative health etc) and it is beneficial to be included on as many of these as possible.
What is hosting?
Every website needs to be stored, or 'hosted', on a special computer called
a 'web server' which allows anyone to access it via the internet. These computers
are permanently connected to the internet, are secure, very fast and and can
hold thousands of websites on one machine. Your website cannot be viewed unless
it is hosted in some way.
What is a domain
name?
A domain name is part of the address of a website that you type in order to
visit it. For example with 'http://www.bbc.co.uk/', the 'bbc.co.uk' section
is the domain name. You need to purchase a domain name to act as the unique
address of your website. The domain name you choose, if it is still available,
needs to be registered and there is a small annual fee charged to maintain your
ownership of that name.
Can
I register my own domain name?
Yes, we can contact your domain name registration holding company to get the
address to be redirected to your new website.
Can you register
a domain name for me?
Yes, we will have to check the availability of the name but providing it is
free we can register it for you. We can also advise on an appropriate domain
name depending on your company name and business.
Can I use an existing
company logo?
We can use any logo you provide us with and will incorporate this into the design
of the website. The logo can be supplied as a digital file or as a hard copy
piece of artwork which we can scan for you. If you don't have a logo we can
also design one for you.
How do I supply
text and pictures to you?
Either by email as attachments, or on disk of any kind (eg floppy, zip or CD).
Most word processing and image file formats can be accepted. Original photographic
prints or negatives can be supplied and scanned in for you. We also work closely
with an experienced professional photographer who is available if required.
Can people contact
me from the website?
Yes, email can be forwarded to your office or home computer with a standard
email link on the site. To collect more detailed and specific information, an
enquiry form can be included which would also be forwarded onto you via email.
Any telephone and fax numbers you wish to add would be included on the site
as a matter of course.

Do you arrange the hosting of
my new website?
Yes, we are in partnership with a top UK hosting company and can arrange a hosting
package to suit the needs of your site.
Can I arrange the hosting myself?
Yes, but do contact us first because our prices are very competitive. If you
do arrange the hosting yourself, we will require your user name and password
details so we can upload the site when it is ready to 'go live'.
Can I update the
site myself?
Yes, and an appropriate system would be used depending on your level of expertise.
Full training can be provided where necessary. Alternatively, we can manage
the full updating and maintenance of your website at very reasonable rates.
What are your
web design prices?
Each job is unique and so prices are quoted accordingly - we are however, very
competitive!
How long will
it take to produce my site?
When all text, images etc are supplied then the usual turnaround for a job is
two weeks.
